Why see Ballet San Antonio - The Nutcracker?

SAN ANTONIO'S NUTCRACKER COMES TO LIFE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

There's no better way in our opinion to kickstart your holiday season with the most Christmassy tradition of all - The Nutcracker! Ballet San Antonio and the San Antonio Symphony will once again team up for this enchanting holiday spectacular, created for you, the San Antonio audience.

WHAT IS the nutcracker ABOUT?

The Nutcracker follows a young girl, Clara as she is given a beautiful nutcracker doll by her mysterious godfather. As the clock strikes midnight, Clara awakens underneath the family's Christmas tree - only this one is ten times larger than she is! When a pack of wicked mice, led by their nefarious King attack, she finds to her surprise that her nutcracker doll has come to life, and valiantly battles the mice army with a motley of tin soldiers. With Clara lending a hand, the mice scatter defeated, and in gratitude, the Nutcracker offers to take Clara on a spellbinding adventure...

Passing through the wintry beauty of the Land of Snowflakes, they next arrive in the mythical Kingdom of Sweets, ruled over by the benevolent Sugar Plum Fairy, where in their honour she commands a special dance performance where they savor an array of delights in dancing confections from around the world.

With beautiful scenery and ethereal costumes, be prepared to lose yourself in the story, swayed on by Tchaikovsky's legendary score performed live by San Antonio Symphony and some of Texas' best classical dancing.

Wonderful Experience - Outstanding Orchestra

Attended the Saturday Matinee with family and loved it! The Tobin Center was a nice, clean, welcoming venue. View was great. From the opening notes the orchestra was fantastic - very tight, accomplished musicians with a fine conductor. The ballet performance was interesting and flowed nicely. The artists were fine, graceful dancers and kept our attention throughout. It was nice to see a performance of the Nutcracker that included the traditional Russian dancers in the Troika instead of clowns or jesters as I have seen in other performances. The staff at the Tobin Center were very warm and accommodating and helped make this a meaningful afternoon for us. Well done, Ballet San Antonio and musicians! Thanks for a great performance. ...
