Can you hear the bells? That's the sound of this musical juggernaut making its way to a stage near you! A fantastically buoyant and joyful celebration of positivity, inclusivity, and majestic hair-do's set in 1962, Hairspray is a spirit-lifting hit the whole family will love! Originally finding life in celluloid with John Waters's unforgettable 1988 cult-hit, Hairspray finally made it to the stage in 2002 and has never looked back. The winner of eight Tony Awards, its full-hearted story, plucky heroine, and delicious soundtrack make this one an unmissable instant classic.

What Is The Story of Hairspray?

Uplifting and instantly catchy songs like 'You Can't Stop The Beat', 'I Can Hear The Bells', and 'Good Morning Baltimore', punctuate a coming-of-age story as bold and big as its character's hairstyles. Curvy teenager Tracy Turnblad shakes up the status quo when she auditions for a regular spot on The Corny Collins Show and wins. Becoming an overnight sensation and relatable role model, she sees beyond the trendsetting and sets out to bring racial integration to the popular variety show.

So, our expectations for Hairspray were not high. This show and these performers blew us away!! The talent these kids displayed was amazing and the joy they shared was contagious. Niki Metcalf (Tracy) has a gorgeous voice and the comedy duet with Andrew Levitt and Christopher Swan (Edna and Wilbur) was a standout. My only complaint was that the orchestra occasionally played over the beautiful singing voices. One of the best Broadway shows we have seen at the Overture, ever! Go see if if you can. ... Read more
